Windows XP Static IP Setup
This section will
cover setting up a static IP address for Windows XP.
Windows XP has two versions of the Start Menu. You
will need to compare the images on this page and the
next to your computer's start menu.
Classic Start
Menu
Start by clicking on the Start Menu. Then move your
mouse to Settings and then Network Connections. You
will then need to Right click on Network Connections
and choose Open. The Network Connections window will
open. Skip to page 3.

Windows XP Start Menu
Start by clicking on the Start Menu. Then move your
mouse to My Network Places and right click on it. A
new menu will appear and you will need to move your
mouse down to Properties and click on it. When you
click on Properties the Network Connections window
will open.

Network Connections
In this window you will see all of the available
connections. Under the LAN or High-Speed Internet
you will have an icon called Local Area Connection.
Right click on this icon. When you right click a
small menu will appear. Navigate down to Properties
to open the Local Area Connection Properties Window.

Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to high
light it. Then click on the Properties button.

The connect using box may have a different
Network Card listed. It will show the brand and
model of the Network Card installed in your
computer.

Now you will need to refer to your information
Sheet. You will need the information off of the
information sheet to complete this part. Make sure
that Use the following IP address is selected. Then
enter your IP address, Subnet mask, and Default
Gateway. Then Enter the Preferred and Alternate DNS
Server

Once you have entered the correct IP, Subnet,
Gateway, and DNS servers Click on OK to close the
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window and
then Click on OK to close the Local Area Connection
Properties window.
