Windows 98 Static IP Setup

Start out by clicking on the Start Button and then go to the Control Panel. Once you get to the Control Panel look for an icon named Network. It should look like the one below.


Once you have opened the Network Properties page you will search for an entry at the bottom that will begin with TCP/IP -> The name of the card will vary from PC to PC. In this example the PC that the screen shots were taken had an SMC EZ Card. On your computer it will have the brand and model of your Network Card.

Once you find the TCP/IP -> card for your computer click on it so that it is high lighted and then click on the Properties button.



A new window will open up. You should start out with the IP Address tab. If you did not open to that tab just click on the IP Address tab. By default the “Obtain an IP address automatically” option will be chosen. Click on Specify an IP address. In the IP address field type in the IP address that has been assigned to you. In the Subnet Mask field make sure that you have 255.255.255.252



Now click on the Gateway tab. In the New Gateway field type in your assigned Gateway. Once you have typed it in click on the Add button.



You are almost done, just one more tab to click on. Now click on the DNS tab. First you need to click Enable DNS. Then in the host field type in your assigned Host name. In the Domain filed type in americainter.net

Now go down to the DNS Server Search Order. In the input field type in 66.255.76.10 and then click on Add. Then again in the input field type in 66.255.77.10 and click on Add.



Now just click on OK to close the TCP/IP Properties window. Then click OK to close the Network. Window may ask you for your Windows 95/98/Me CD. If asked insert your CD. Windows will ask you if you would like to restart your computer. Answer yes.

Once your computer finishes rebooting you will be ready to surf the web!
